Arizona is under an ozone high-pollution advisory through Monday.

The Arizona Department of Environmental Quality extended its weekend advisory on Aug. 25, stating the highest concentration of pollution is expected to exceed the federal health standard.

Active children, adults and people with lung disease such as asthma should reduce prolonged or heavy outdoor exertion, according to ADEQ.

Outdoor painting projects are discouraged during a high-pollution advisory, state officials said, and drivers are encouraged to fill their gas tanks in the early morning or evening.

Also, wood-burning fireplaces, outdoor fire pits and similar outdoor fires should not be used in Maricopa County, officials said.
