East Hartford is stepping up to help people when it comes to filling their fridge and pantry.

That’s where a new food pantry could make a difference and it is located in the East Hartford Community Center.

While there are other pantries in East Hartford, this is the first run by the town.

“We still heard from our partners, those that operate those pantries, as well as some of the residents it's not enough. There's a need for food support. We have a high level of food insecurity still,” Laurence Burnsed, East Hartford Director of Health and Human Services, said.

That’s something we heard when we talked to people in the community.

One man said he goes to soup kitchens and places that give out free food.
