HAMPTON, N.H. — A 17-year-old boy died Sunday while swimming with his family at Hampton Beach, according to New Hampshire State Police.
New Hampshire State Police's Marine Patrol received a report around 6:45 p.m. about a possible drowning, according to a news release.
Witnesses reportedly told police the teen was swimming with his family when he was pulled from shore by a strong ocean current. The teen's father then went into the ocean to rescue him, but he also became distressed, police said.
State beach patrol lifeguards brought the teen and his father back to shore, where they performed lifesaving efforts on the boy, according to police.
