LEESVILLE, La. (KPLC) - A Leesville woman is accused of shooting and killing a man who was visiting her home.

Destini Leon, 31, faces a count of first-degree murder.

The Vernon Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to a welfare check at a home in Cedarbrook Circle in Leesville around 5 p.m. on Aug 23, VPSO said.

When deputies arrived, they were unable to speak to the homeowner and reported hearing someone moaning when they knocked on the door of the home, the sheriff’s office said.

Deputies forced their way into the home and immediately discovered a dead man and an unresponsive woman, later identified as Leon, on the floor, VPSO said.

The man was identified as Micah Schmidt, 22, of DeRidder. Out of an abundance of caution, Leon was treated at a local medical facility for a possible overdo
