SPRINGVILLE, Iowa (KCRG) - Authorities are investigating what caused a house fire in Springville on Monday morning.

At approximately 8:09 a.m. Monday, authorities responded to a report of a house fire in Springville.

Heavy smoke was visible from the house’s garage upon arrival, according to the Linn County Sheriff’s Office.

Police say neighbors saw 44-year-old Joe Erdman leaving for work before the fire started, where he was the only resident.

A small dog was rescued from the basement by firefighters and taken to a vet clinic to be examined. No injuries were reported.

The fire caused an estimated $150,000 in damage. The cause remains unknown.
