Syracuse, N.Y. ― The last of seven people who kidnapped and assaulted a Syracuse man was sentenced to prison Monday.
Rahim Williams, 37, previously pleaded guilty to first-degree assault in connection with the kidnapping and beating of Koddie Beechner over several days in April 2023.
On Monday, Williams was sentenced to seven years in prison.
Williams was one of the “least culpable” of the people involved in the brutal crime, said prosecutor Jed Hudson. Hudson said that despite Williams’ limited involvement, the severity of the crime warranted the prison sentence.
Williams’ defense attorney, Nicholas DeMartino, said there is no evidence that he was involved in any physical contact with the victim.
“His biggest sin in this was to be there,” DeMartino said.
