MARTINSBURG - Berkeley Medical Center on Monday celebrated the opening of a new 20-bed Emergency Department (ED) Observation Unit, a project hospital leaders say will expand local access to care and ease patient demand across the Eastern Panhandle.

Hospital President and CEO of WVU Hositals East, Mark O’Hern said the unit represents a major step in the center’s strategy to keep patients closer to home for treatment rather than traveling outside the region.
