KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - Mayor Quinton Lucas has called for the regulation of surface parking lots in Kansas City, Missouri.
It is also part of a resolution that the City Council may soon consider.
It would require lots to have proper lighting, surveillance and management.
National data backs that plan. According to the FBI , parking lots are the third-highest for violent crimes to occur.
There are also critics of this plan.
Clay County State Representative Bill Allen lashed out at the mayor on Facebook, saying: “We’re not exactly gonna ban parking lots...Government is not the answer folks, it’s the problem.”
The resolution has not made its way through the City Council yet. A Kansas City committee is expected to review the plan next month.
