IOWA CITY, Iowa (KCRG) - A 9-year-old boy from Oskaloosa will be this week’s Kid Captain for when the Iowa Hawkeyes take on the Albany Great Danes.
At 6-years-old, Nolan Stevenson sustained life-threatening injuries in a serious UTV accident on the family farm. He was taken to the Stead Family Children’s Hospital.
Nolan suffered a severely fractured right pelvis and a crushed left pelvis. He went through a 15-hour surgery.
Following the surgery, he underwent months of additional procedures, including intensive wound care, skin grafting, and a hemipelvectomy to remove part of his pelvis.
Nolan has transitioned to walking with a prosthetic leg after initially returning to school in a wheelchair.
He is now 9-years-old and enjoys playing golf, boating, swimming, fishing and showing cattle
