A Fort Collins resident has died from neuroinvasive West Nile virus, the Larimer County Department of Health and Environment reported on Aug. 25.

The case is one of 20 confirmed in the county this season, affecting people of all ages, from 24 to 86, according to a news release from the health department.

“We are saddened by this loss and extend our deepest condolences to this resident’s loved ones,” Tom Gonzales, Larimer County public health director, said in the news release. “This death underscores the potentially serious nature of West Nile virus.”
