More than 400 nurses at Legacy Mount Hood Medical Center reached a tentative contract agreement with the health system, avoiding a potential strike, the Oregon Nurses Association announced on Saturday.

Nurses at the Gresham medical center authorized a strike in mid-August, frustrated at what they cast as a lack of adequate progress in contract negotiations that started in 2023.

The Legacy Mount Hood nurses said they want pay that is more competitive with other health systems, a stronger voice in decision making and affordable healthcare of their own.

Saturday’s announcement from the Oregon Nurses Association said the tentative agreement struck between nurses and the hospital includes competitive wages, paid time off for nurses who get assaulted in the workplace and dedicated security
