LYNDHURST, Ohio (WOIO) - Asked how she wanted to celebrate her 100th birthday on August 25th, Rose Scotland said she wanted to be at work.
Scotland has been teaching an aquatics class for seniors and those with mobility issues at the Hillcrest YMCA in Lyndhurst for the past two decades.
It wasn’t until she was 80 years old that Rose embarked on this new career path, getting her certification to be an instructor.
“No one asked my age. I never said it. Who cares, so long as you have a desire to do better for yourself,” says Scotland.
The classes are a passion for Rose.
She nearly drown in Lake Erie when she was 17 years old. The near tragedy inspired her to learn how to swim.
She turned to the YMCA in downtown Cleveland for swim lessons. Those lessons fostered a love for the water. So
