TAMPA, Fla. — In his early 20s, the hospital bed at Moffitt Cancer Center was the last place Taylor Spike ever thought he would be.
“It's not like it was just, you know, some little disease. I was battling for my life at the age of 22,” Spike said.
In June 2018, an MRI uncovered a tumor on Taylor’s lung.
“A 25-centimeter mediastinal germ cell tumor. I went through significant treatment where I was doing 24 hours around the clock, seven days a week of chemotherapy. Then I'd get a week or two off, and then I'd go back,” Spike said.
He continued that regimen for about five months, then had surgery to remove the tumor.
“I was in remission all the way to 2023 and then had it pop up again.”
After another surgery, he’s in remission now.
“It's been a battle.”
