TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Following a deadly campus shooting in April, Florida State University is hoping to move onto a fresh start for the 2025 fall semester.
On April 17, 2025, two staff members were killed and six students were injured when the son of a Leon County Sherriff's Office deputy, Pheonix Ikner, opened fire outside of the Student Union Building.
"My first time back on campus after the shooting, I had to walk this area, which is where I was walking that day and it felt like I was reliving it," said student Tamara Leland.
In wake of the coming semester, FSU shared with students and staff how panic and lockdown buttons have been installed in all public spaces, which will alert FSU police about any emergencies. The school also stated that extra door locking systems have been added
