ORANGE, Texas — H-E-B has purchased the Northway Shopping Center in Orange and plans to demolish it to make way for a new, larger grocery store. The project, more than a year in the planning, still requires city approval for $1.5 million in funding from the Orange Economic Development Corporation.

The new store would replace the existing H-E-B in Orange and be double its size, with expanded parking and the rerouting of a nearby street, according to city documents.

Kelvin Knauf, the city’s director of planning and community development, said the development signals confidence in Orange’s future. “H-E-B is, is a very well known brand, you know, and they're very, very good stores,” Knauf said. “So we're excited that H-E-B has enough confidence in the city of Orange and the community of Oran
