Seven drivers were arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence at a Saturday night DUI Checkpoint, according to Santa Maria Police.

During the operation conducted at 100 South Broadway from 6 p.m. on Saturday to 2 a.m. on Sunday morning, nine drivers were given a citation for driving without a license and one driver was cited for driving on a suspended license.

According to information from SMPD, 763 vehicles passed through the checkpoint and 153 drivers were screened.

Drivers facing a first-time DUI conviction can expect an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties, along with a suspended driver’s license.

Mothers Against Drunk Driving was also present at the checkpoint, distributing educational materials to drivers.
