MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) - Madison Police are shutting down the homeless encampment outside of the Wisconsin Veteran’s Museum downtown.
The move comes after a large increase in calls for police service around State Street, officials said.
While police say the move will keep the community safer, some Madison homeless advocates are concerned that this will put a strain on their already limited resources for homeless individuals.
“Where are people supposed to go?” Brenda Konkel, Executive Director of Madison Street Medicine questioned. “Nobody has an answer to that question, and we don’t know what to tell people.”
Konkel said her team spends a lot of time trying to help people living on city streets. However, providing that help can be difficult when those in need are always on the move.
