COLUMBUS, Ga. (WRBL) — City officials are hoping a new splash pad will mark a turning point for Carver Park.

A ribbon cutting ceremony for the splash pad was held at the park on Monday afternoon. The new Carver Park amenity has been open since the beginning of summer.

“It’s bringing more revitalization to this area,” said District Four City Councilor Toyia Tucker.

In 2021, Tucker was a supporter of a city council vote which closed Carver Park on weekends, following two deadly shootings.

“Prior, Carver Park had a bad name. Crime and different incidents had occurred and it was all in the media,” Tucker explained.

Since the splash pad reopened, the park has been open on weekends once again. Tucker wants this to mark a new era for the park.
