A pair of matches this next week at Snapdragon Stadium will help kick off the local collegiate soccer season.

San Diego State will host UC San Diego in a women’s match Saturday at 7 p.m. at Snapdragon. Then on Labor Day, the Aztec men will host nationally ranked USD at Snapdragon at 5 p.m.

The Toreros, Aztecs and UCSD men all made a trip to the East Coast last week.

SDSU’s men (1-1) lost 2-0 at No. 17 Virginia, then scored a 2-0 win over Howard University in Washington, D.C. Second-half goals by Christian Engmann and Juan Zepeda propelled the Aztecs to Sunday’s win, and goalkeeper Eddy Vargas recorded a shutout.

USD, which was ranked ninth and 10th in the two national preseason polls, opened the season with a 2-1 loss at No. 15 Duke then played No. 20 Furman to a scoreless tie. Before
