An electric blanket caused a fire in a Hillsboro home Aug. 16 that killed one person and hospitalized another, fire officials have said.

The fire broke out around 4 a.m. Firefighters brought two people out of the house within eight minutes of the first 911 call, Hillsboro Fire and Rescue said in a statement last week.

One of them died at Legacy Emanuel Medical Center. The other person was still receiving medical care as of Aug. 18.

The fire department said an electrical failure of the electric blanket caused the fire. An investigator was not available to explain exactly what kind of electrical failure had occurred.
