Across New Orleans, people were seen on their rooftops hanging on for dear life in the wake of Hurricane Katrina.

In the Lower 9th Ward, one man combed his neighborhood to save as many people as he could. WDSU reporter Shay O'Connor told the story of Robert Micheal Knight, who took matters into his own hands. Advertisement

"I heard a lot of noise and him saying, 'The water is coming up, the water is coming up,' ... then the phone just went out," said Andrea Anderson, the daughter of Micheal Knight.

Alarming Anderson, who was a teenager when Hurricane Katrina made landfall. In those moments, she only wanted to hear back from her father.

Anderson said, "That was the last time I heard my dad's voice until seeing him when everyone eventually came back."
