ROSELAND, La. — Three days after a massive explosion at a plant in Tangipahoa, Governor Landry said residents will have to be patient as answers will take time.
The cause of the explosion at Smitty's Supply is still unclear, but during the press conference on Monday, officials said the fire is 98% contained. Monday morning, officials also scaled back the evacuation zone. While the initial mandatory evacuation encompassed a one-mile radius, it's now only active for the area immediately surrounding the plant, as containment efforts continue.
Our crews got a closer look at the plant on Monday, as much of the smoke cleared, and parts of the plant are mangled and crumbled. Our crews observed dirt being brought in to create a berm and vacuum trucks on site.
