ROSELAND, La. — Four days after a massive explosion at Smitty’s Supply rocked Tangipahoa Parish, frustration is growing among residents who say they’re being left in the dark about what chemicals blanketed their homes.
On Monday night, neighbors packed Grant Chapel AME Church in Roseland for a meeting with local leaders. While Governor Jeff Landry has urged residents to “be patient” as testing continues, patience is wearing thin.
Roseland Mayor Van Showers told residents he has repeatedly asked for a list of chemicals released, but has not received clear answers.
“I know everybody is mad … I was told there were over 50 chemicals. I have asked. I haven’t gotten the answer yet,” Showers said.
