HOOVER, Ala. —

Election day is Tuesday across central Alabama, as the Hoover mayoral race between incumbent Frank Brocato and police Chief Nick Derzis draws significant attention.

Brocato, the incumbent, started his career at the Hoover Fire Department in 1973 and was first elected mayor in 2016.

Derzis began at the Hoover Police Department in 1979 and became chief in 2005; he is currently on leave from the position as he campaigns.
