The Alabama Department of Health (ADPH) confirmed Alabama's first measles case since 2022 on Monday.

The case involves an unvaccinated child under the age of five in North Alabama who got it while traveling out of the country. ADPH did not specify where in North Alabama the case was found.

"The child did not attend daycare or school, and entities involved in the management and treatment of the patient have been notified," officials said in a news release.

ADPH adds the child had siblings who have been vaccinated for measles and at this time, they have not had symptoms.

They stated that, when exposed, unvaccinated people have a 90 percent chance of becoming infected
