HARDIN COUNTY, Texas — A pilot made an emergency landing near the Hardin County airport after a small plane had mechanical issues, according to Sheriff Mark Davis.

Davis told 12News that around 8 p.m. they recieved a 911 call from the pilot. They were flying from the Hemphill area when the plane started experiencing mechanical issues with the engine and the pilot was forced to land.

Davis said the pilot must have not know that Hawthorne Field Airport was closed for maintenance and then went off at the end of the runway, ending up in a hayfield.

The pilot was flying alone and reportedly departed from the Pineland area earlier this evening before experiencing engine and fuel problems, forcing him to make an emergency landing according to Sheriff Davis.
