BURLINGTON, Vt. (ABC22/FOX44) - Burlington's city council on Monday evening passed a resolution which asks the city to address "chronic safety and health challenges" at the downtown City Hall Park, 9 votes to 2.
The resolution, sponsored by by Councilor Ben Traverse, reads that the park has been the site of "acts of violence, drug trafficking, open drug use, [and] the fencing of stolen goods." It calls for police presence in the park, and for the nightly park closure from midnight to 6:00 a.m. to be enforced.
The resolution also calls for coordination among agencies in Chittenden County and the state - a committee of law enforcement to decide how to respond to drug trafficking in Burlington, along with a discussion among public health officials to address barriers to seeking treatment fo
