SALT LAKE CITY — Residents were evacuated and two schools were placed in secured status after landscapers found a box with decades-old mining explosives on Monday morning.

According to the Weber County Sheriff’s Office, at approximately 8:45 a.m., sheriff deputies responded to a call of explosives found at a residence in Washington Terrace.

“Landscapers working in the area of 4700 S. 175 West were digging in a yard and found suspicious-looking items in a box buried in the dirt,” the sheriff’s office said in a press release.

The sheriff’s office said that the landscapers believed the objects were explosives and evacuated the area with the homeowners.
