BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - You could say the Prairieville Hurricanes were a bit like an expansion franchise a season ago.
The team and school for that matter were brand new, understandably leading to a number of challenges during the Hurricanes first year on the gridiron.
Head coach Mike Schmitt’s team gave a valiant effort but still was not in position to compete against the likes of Dutchtown, Denham Springs, East Ascension and their other district foes, finishing with an overall record of 2-8.
This year Schmitt says Prairieville has roughly 100 players, but the Hurricanes are still young, having just 12 seniors. The team is sticking with their same defensive philosophy but implementing a new offense, which could take some time to become comfortable with.
