BANGOR -- Folks gathered in Pierce Park Monday evening to remember loved ones lost due to overdoses.

Hosted by harm reduction organization Needlepoint Sanctuary, organizers say the event serves as both a vigil and a call to action. It's an opportunity for individuals to mourn those lost to overdoses in recent years, while calling for change in the state and community.

"We're here to honor the memory of folks we have lost, loved ones, neighbors, community members, to overdose....in recent years we have seen a significant decrease in overdose deaths thanks to naloxone distribution programs like ours at Needlepoint Sanctuary and so many others," stated community organizer Luke Sekera-Flanders.
