SPOKANE, Wash. — The Spokane City Council (SCC) passed ordinance 36723, "Public Dollars for Public Benefit," Monday night.
This ordinance aims to create a workforce agreement while prioritizing hiring individuals within construction trades and promote training and career opportunities. It also requires a certain percentage of Spokane workers to be hired for contracts over $5 million. That includes workers from historically excluded or underrepresented communities to ensure a diverse workforce.
“This ordinance is a major move toward not just developing our infrastructure but also strengthening our workforce,” said Council Member Paul Dillon, co-sponsor of this ordinance. “By focusing on local residents and investing in training, we’re preparing our community for long-term success.”
