SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) -- After posting their worst record since 2008, 3-9 overall and just 2-5 in Mountain West Conference play, it’s a new season on the Mesa.

“They’re here to play elite football and to win championships,” said Aztec Head Football Coach Sean Lewis, “This is an opportunity to start on the right step and off on the right foot to do that.”

Lewis says he is excited about the team.

“I’m excited to see the physicality, the competitive nature. I had to tell the guys during camp to slow down because we’re brothers here, I get to say go, I get to let them go on Thursday,” he said.

Picked to finish eighth in the conference preseason poll, SDSU returns seven of its nine all-Mountain West players from a year ago with an offense that averaged just 21.3 points per game last season
