GRAND RAPIDS — As budget negotiations — or a lack thereof — have seen Michigan lawmakers and Gov. Gretchen Whitmer blow past a statutory deadline to have a state spending plan in place for the next fiscal year, Whitmer stressed Monday, Aug. 25, that time is dwindling to avoid a government shutdown.
While a statutory deadline directs lawmakers to have a state budget in place by July 1, lawmakers and the governor's office have until the fiscal year officially begins on Oct. 1 to agree on a budget, or a government shutdown will take place.
"There's so many things we've got to get negotiated," Whitmer told reporters
