GREEN LAKE, Wis. (WBAY) - The man accused of faking his death in Big Green Lake and fleeing the country is scheduled to enter a plea to a charge of obstructing an officer on Tuesday.
Online court records say Ryan Borgwardt faces sentencing at the same hearing in Green Lake County court.
With the misdemeanor charge, Borgwardt faces up to 9 months in jail and a $10,000 fine.
The county sheriff says the father of 3 plotted to fake his death while kayaking last August in order to leave his family and meet a woman in eastern Europe.
Rescue teams searched the lake for weeks. Investigators eventually tracked him down overseas. The story received national attention.
Borgwardt returned to the U.S. last December and was taken into custody. He said he didn’t expect authorities to search for him
