The ocean didn't breach the dune this time, but after Hurricane Erin, beach erosion is more apparent on the Indian River Inlet's north side beach than any of Delaware's other ocean beaches.
The storm flattened the beach and pushed scarping (sand cliffs) all the way up to the dune at the north side beach, which is especially susceptible to erosion due to the nature of the inlet. Beach currents typically carry sand south to north, but at the inlet, the jetties cause sand to continuously build up on the south side and wash away on the north side.
