The Fairfield National Little League team returned home Monday to a hero’s welcome, complete with a parade, rally and hundreds of cheering fans lining the streets.

The team, fresh off a third-place finish at the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, was celebrated like celebrities in their hometown.

It has been nearly 50 years since a team from Connecticut has advanced this far in the tournament, making Fairfield’s achievement one for the history books.

The boys were escorted down Post Road by firetrucks, greeted by chants of “Fairfield!” and a sea of supporters waving signs and wearing team gear. The celebration concluded on the town green, where they received the key to the city.
