Over 13 years ago, The Repository printed my letter, “Don’t buy politicians’ divide-and-conquer tactics of class warfare.” My thoughts are even more relevant today. Not to repeat, I’ve condensed the salient points.
Class warfare is disgusting — there is always someone better off than the next guy. Unless folks have illegally or immorally gotten their money, they shouldn’t be vilified or penalized.
Some politicians are shamelessly demagoguing unsuspecting others to promote envy — promising to collect more tax money from those not paying their “fair share.” Sadly, those who sign on to this slogan make the leap that the extra collected money will go to them, and the cruelty is that it will never be enough.
