During the April “Hands Off” protest in Jackson Township, I walked through the entire crowd with a small Revere Ware pot and stainless steel rod calmly but audibly tapping the noisemaker and inviting each of those attending to “make some noise at 8 p.m. every night for one minute” to continue the momentum of the movement until some changes result.
The idea of this personal action formed from my reading on individual and group protests around the world called “Cacerolazo” (cas-a-ro-laz’-o), which basically involves groups simultaneously banging pots loudly in the street or from windows or the front porch as a physical signal of discontent.
