Police Tuesday are investigating a shooting near the Long Beach-Signal Hill border that left a man wounded.

Officers with the Long Beach Police Department responded at 8:43 p.m. Sunday to a hospital, where a man told them he had taken himself after being shot in the 3200 block of Atlantic Avenue, according to the police department.

The victim told the officers he was walking along Atlantic when he felt pain in his lower body and learned he had sustained a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the lower body.

Officers canvassed the area, but were unable to locate a crime scene, police said. The motive, circumstances of the shooting and suspect information were under investigation.
