1964 Phillies : Philadelphia, under manager Gene Mauch, was 6 ½ games ahead in the National League with 12 to go. Mauch mismanaged his starting pitchers and the Phillies lost 10 straight and the pennant.
2011 Boston Red Sox : First team to hold a 9-game lead in September and not make the playoffs. They lost 20 games in a month
1995 Angels: Hard to believe (unless you’re an Angel fan), they were 11 ½ games ahead of Seattle on Aug. 16 and did not even make the playoffs,
2011 Atlanta Braves: They were 25 games above .500 entering September and had an 8 ½ game lead for the wild card. But folded own the stretch.
