When John Schneider’s distinctive mug appeared larger than life on the outfield big screen recently, Blue Jays pitching coach Pete Walker turned to his manager pal and asked if it was his birthday.
Not quite.
The scoreboard actually was acknowledging a rather impressive achievement: That the Blue Jays skipper had quietly moved into fourth place in the franchise list of all-time managerial wins.
While there’s plenty of work to do and many seasons to manage to catch leader Cito Gaston at 894, Schneider’s 286 victories in just over three years at the helm is an impressive validation of his work.
