The Roses is a remake of the classic War of the Roses , a classic dark comedy in which Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner play a married couple whose infatuation curdles into contempt and then homicidal loathing. I vividly remember seeing it as a kid and expecting it to be the same kind of romp as Romancing the Stone , because at that age I was not actually interrogating or researching my choices; this is also how I came to see The Secret of My Success in the movie theater, believing it to be a documentary about my beloved Michael J.
