PROSPECT HEIGHTS, Brooklyn (WABC) -- A woman was shot and injured in Brooklyn and a man, believed to be her downstairs neighbor, is on the run from police.

It happened on Saint John's Place in Prospect Heights around 8:45 a.m. on Tuesday.

The 49-year-old woman was shot in a violent encounter that appears to be the culmination of an ongoing neighbor dispute.

The suspect apparently lives one floor beneath the victim.

Police initially thought he was barricaded in his apartment following the shooting, but when they made entry, he was not there.

The gunman is described as about 5'10" tall, 155 pounds, wearing a navy blue shirt and navy blue pants.

The woman has been complaining to the building's super about being harassed by the man, other neighbors told Eyewitness News.
