Mount Clemens — In his last words to a Macomb County Circuit Court judge before he was sentenced for killing a young pregnant mother, Travion Smith said he is not a murderer.
Smith was 16 when he fled from Sterling Heights police officers in August 2023, running a red light and crashing into Faith and Norman Gumma's vehicle, killing Faith and injuring Norman and their 2-year-old son. He was convicted of second-degree murder and four other charges.
Faith Gumma had copies of images of her fetus on her lap in the front passenger seat when Smith crashed into her vehicle.
"I was 16 when this terrible accident occurred. I was scared, your honor, and I didn’t understand what happened that day," Smith said. "I truly don’t understand why they followed me in the first place. I am not a murder
