An Illinois grandfather has won a nice chunk of change thanks to his second-favorite scratch-off ticket.

Clarence Neuenkirchen said he visited a Jewel-Osco grocery store in Oswego, where he decided to play the lottery, according to a Tuesday, Aug. 26, news release from the Illinois Lottery.

First, Neuenkirchen told Illinois Lottery officials, he tried to purchase his favorite $5 Crossword scratch-off ticket. But that ticket was sold out.
