SHAKER HEIGHTS, Ohio -- At community engagement meetings last week, Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District officials further explained their “revised recommendation” on the fate of the Lower Shaker Lake dam.
They cited additional modeling conducted since they reached formal agreements in 2021 with the cities of Shaker Heights and Cleveland Heights, which lease the original parkland owned by the City of Cleveland.
At that time, both city councils signed off on " resolutions to concur " with the sewer district’s agreement to remove the Horseshoe Lake dam and restore Doan Brook stream beds and floodplains.
The legislation also included assurances that the district (NEORSD) would keep the Lower Lake dam -- which would celebrate its bicentennial next year -- and pay for its reconstruction,
