ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) - A man will serve time for killing his ex-girlfriend.

Court documents state that on July 4, 2021, around 11:25 p.m., Gail Keys, 61, asked officers for help getting into her house in the 5400 block of Ruskin after she discovered 74-year-old Samuel Bailey broke in. As she walked through the door, Bailey shot and killed Keys, according to officials.

Charges say police took cover and Bailey shot at officers while they were approaching the house. Officials later surrounded the house and arrested the suspect.

Bailey pled guilty to second-degree murder, first-degree burglary, three counts of first-degree assault of a special victim, and unlawful possession of a gun and the assault of three officers who tried to arrest him.
