Denis Shapovalov is moving on at the US Open.

The 27th-seeded Canadian cruised to a first-round victory on Tuesday, beating unseeded Hungarian Márton Fucsovics 6-4, 6-4, 6-0 at the final Grand Slam of the season in Queens, N.Y.

Shapovalov, of Richmond Hill, Ont., fired eight aces to just one for Fucsovics while converting eight of 11 break-point opportunities.

In total, he won 96 points to Fucsovics’ 69.

Shapovalov will next face the winner of a match between unseeded opponents Valentin Royer of France and Yunchaokete Bu of China in the second round.

The Canadian has not advanced past Round 2 at any Grand Slam this year, winning just one match each at the Australian and French Opens before dropping his opening contest at Wimbledon.
