STERLING HEIGHTS, Mich. (WILX) - A 41-year-old school bus driver was fatally injured while trimming trees near energized power lines at the edge of a school bus parking lot in Sterling Heights.

According to the Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration (MIOSHA), the driver was operating a boom lift to perform the non-routine task when they came into contact with the power lines.

The driver died from injuries sustained during the incident.

This marks the 24th workplace fatality in Michigan reported to MIOSHA in 2025.

MIOSHA is reminding employers and employees to use extreme care and safety diligence during all work activities.
