Acknowledging a need to curb crime in City Hall Park, Burlington city councilors handed the mayor and police department a to-do list on Monday to help make it happen.
The council's resolution — passed 9-2 that night — also asked Gov. Phil Scott and other officials to marshal talks around targeting drug traffickers, intervening with at-risk juveniles and helping people with substance-use disorders get healthy easier.
Mayor Emma Mulvaney-Stanak's administration must review strategies nationwide for resolving nonviolent but illegal and antisocial behavior in public, the resolution says. The directive focuses in particular on ways to reduce open illegal drug use.
